Trauma

At Mind and Wellness Counselling, we use trauma informed counselling and EMDR therapy as an effective treatment to work through traumatic life events that may be blocking your ability to lead a happy and fulfilling life.

Your psychological trauma may have resulted from having experienced distressing events in your adult life, or perhaps childhood abuse or adversity.

Trauma is often the result of an overwhelming amount of stress that exceeds one's ability to cope, or integrate the emotions involved with that experience. If you have lived a difficult event in your life and are experiencing one or more of the symptoms listed below, you could benefit from seeking trauma-informed therapy.

Symptoms of psychological trauma

  • Shock, denial, or disbelief.
  • Confusion, difficulty concentrating.
  • Anger, irritability, mood swings.
  • Anxiety and fear.
  • Guilt, shame, self-blame.
  • Withdrawing from others.
  • Feeling sad or hopeless.
  • Feeling disconnected or numb.
