Frequently Asked Questions

Today's fast paced and socially complex world can put a strain on our own mental health and that of our loved ones.  There is no need to suffer in silence or try to suppress issues by pretending they don't exist.

If you have a question, a concern or feel that you need help, please do not hesitate to e-mail or call us.

  • How do I know if I need professional help?

There is not set rule stating when you should seek professional help. The best guide is when you feel that all your own resources and supports are not enough to solve the problem that you are grappling with in life. Sometimes, even though you are doing the best you can, a new perspective or skills set could help you to resolve the situation and to move forward.

  • Do you take child and teenage patients as well as adults?

I see children, teens and adults in my practice. Children under the age of 12 need to be accompanied by their parents and minors need to have a parental consent signed. I also deal with older adult concerns.

  • How much does it cost?

This depends on whether you are seeking individual, couple or family therapy. Please see our FEES page for a complete breakdown of services pricing.

Please note that only payment in cash, e-transfer or cheque at the time of the session is accepted.

  • Do you do third-party reimbursement?

I do not do third-party reimbursement. However, I give a receipt for services rendered and this can be submitted to your insurance company. Please check beforehand if your insurance covers psychotherapy.

  • My spouse needs help but should I attend the sessions as well?

I usually see the spouse for several sessions first. It is then up to your spouse whether he/she wishes to have you included in any of the subsequent sessions.

  • Do you offer weekend and evening appointments?

At this time, I offer regular evening appointments on Tuesday and Thursday, as well as Saturday morning appointments. Appointments at on other days will be considered on an individual basis.

  • Do you do group and family therapy?

I do offer family therapy for up to three family members at a time. I collaborate in doing group therapy with other agencies. These groups will be posted as they come up throughout the year.

  • I know my family member(s) need help but how do I convince him/her/them to seek it?

To engage in therapy is an individual choice. However, you can respectfully suggest to a family member that a professional may be helpful to them in their situation. You could also give them the names and addresses of suitable resources they could reach out to for their specific challenge or need.

  • Do you conduct on-site mental health seminars at businesses and schools?

This service is being developed and will be available in the near future.
